Twenty Kitchen and Bar is a new spot in the downtown core of St. Catharines. You can find it across from the Performing Arts Center at 259 St. Paul Street. I had the chance to visit during their grand opening and I was impressed from start to finish. Right when you walk in you can tell that the atmosphere is intimate, trendy, and fun. It’s somewhere you want to be on a Friday or Saturday night to have some drinks with some friends.
A big part of why I love Twenty is that it fills a gap in the downtown core. Since my university days I’ve always noticed that the late night scene is pretty one dimensional, you can go to a club get some cheap drinks and then head over to Burrito Boys, Bella Noellas, or Pizza Pizza to grab a late night meal on your way home. Don’t get me wrong, that’s some of my fondest memories from university and to this day one of the things I love to do in the city. But sometimes… you just want a nice cocktail, a glass of wine, or a beer with some great food and good music in a more relaxed setting. Twenty does exactly that.
Rachel Wachner and Tori Pennell felt the same way and brought the city an amazing restaurant and late night eatery. They play great music which includes the likes of hip-hop, rap and much more. Combined with a long list of local VQA wines, cocktails, beer, and mouth-watering food creates an atmosphere that keeps you coming back.
Favourites
1. Chocolate Caramel Mousse
Twenty has a small list of desserts that are perfect after a delicious meal . The caramel chocolate mousse is perfection. The mousse comes in a ball with a thin chocolate fudge-like outer layer with the warm caramel poured on top at your table. The consistency is smooth and has a rich chocolate flavour that doesn’t disappoint. You’ll have a tough time sharing this one

2. Icewine Creme Brulee
Alright, I’ll be honest with this one. I’m not the biggest fan of crème brulee and that’s no secret, but my girlfriend is somewhat of a connoisseur so I trust her opinion on it:
“It’s some of the best I’ve ever had”
Adding to that, the ice-wine aspect changes the dull and overdone dessert for me, I actually enjoyed the subtle differences it has when compared to your standard brulee. If you’re a fan of this dessert then you need to try it, if you’re not I’d still recommended giving it a try or sharing it with someone. If it means anything, I would happily share it again and judging by the girlfriends reaction to it ill be sharing it with her more often than not.

Summary
Twenty does a lot of things right. They’re open late, have great drinks, great music, and most of all great dessert. I can see myself heading there for a late night dessert and a glass of wine.
Since my second visit they’ve added a Deep Fried Mars bar to the menu. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet but if you have, or if you’ve tried any other desserts, let me know what you think via email or IG messages. I’d love to hear from you!
